Our Story
It all started in a small Los Angeles garage back in 2012. Founders Michael Fishman and Shelby Novak were avid cyclists who wanted to share their passion with others. But they quickly realized that quality bikes came with premium price tags that put them out of reach for many people.
Determined to change that, Michael and Shelby set out to create stylish and reliable bikes at prices everyone could afford. After months of research, sourcing, and testing, they launched Critical Cycles – offering fixed-gear, single-speed, hybrid, cruiser, and folding bikes at a fraction of the cost of competitors.
Word spread quickly about these affordable, minimalist bikes. Before long, Critical Cycles was being featured in major publications like Forbes and Buzzfeed. As demand grew, the company expanded operations to meet it – moving from the garage to a small warehouse, then a larger one, and eventually to a 30,000 square foot facility.
Today, Critical Cycles has sold over 150,000 bikes worldwide and our selection has expanded to include kids’ balance bikes, ebikes, and a full range of cycling accessories. But our mission remains the same: to be the leading provider of quality, budget-friendly bikes and gear for riders of all ages and abilities.
